Whether you're starting your wardrobe over from scratch, or just looking to refresh your closet and make getting dressed in the morning easier, a realistic capsule wardrobe is the place to start. Postpartum is the perfect time to reevaluate your wardrobe, and rediscover your personal style. Starting with a capsule wardrobe will give you a great base with so many outfit options while you're finding your style, and figuring out what looks and feels best for your new body and lifestyle. With the right basics, shoes, and accessories you can make so many outfits

When it comes to building a capsule wardrobe it isn't a one size fits all, you really want to keep in mind your personal lifestyle. Think about what is actually realistic for your everyday life; what are you doing, where are you going, and what is most important to you. For me, this is casual outfits that are comfortable but still feel put together.

This is a capsule for everyday mom life, we're ditching the satin skirts and blazers, for stretchy waistbands, pull on pants, athleisure, and affordable basics. If you spend most of your days playing on the floor, walking to the park, doing errands, and chasing around littles, this capsule wardrobe is for you!

CASUAL SPRING CAPSULE WARDROBE

Below you'll see my spring capsule wardrobe picks that i'm wearing on repeat postpartum. I'm focusing on things that feel comfortable to wear, flatter my postpartum body (which for me is a larger chest and mom pooch), and easily mix and match to allow me to quickly throw together cute, casual outfits. I'm sharing the type of pieces to look for, as well as some options, you can click on the images to be taken to the site to shop.

I'll also be sharing 30+ outfit ideas and ways to style these pieces, and how to subtly incorporate current trends, in upcoming blog posts, and on my socials, so follow along for more inspo!

TOPS

PLAIN TEES + TANKS

The right basics lay the foundation for any good outfit. White tees & tanks are my go to, but any neutral color works; I also mix in greys, beige, brown, & navy!

For t-shirts right now im loving having a fitted and looser boxy option. For tank tops you can't go wrong with a high crewneck, or more of a suble or rounded square neck, bonus points if its double lined or "bra free." Abercrombie has a great line of cute bra free basics right now!

ELEVATED BASICS

Elevated basics are essentially any plain top with just a little something extra: a unique neckline, buttons, eyelet detailing etc.. I'm especially loving the button down trend for easy breastfeeding on the go.

WHITE DAINTY BLOUSE

A white dainty blouse with lace and eyelet details is a spring staple. Such an easy way to elevate a simple outfit, or give a more feminine and romantic vibe. This style top is everywhere right now, but i especially love the ones at Free People.

DENIM BUTTON DOWN

A denim button down is a classic, it's a great layering piece to add a little something more to your outfit, as well as some extra warmth. Depending on the weather where you live you can either opt for a lighter denim top, or more of a jacket style for added warmth.

CARDIGAN

A Cardigan is another wardrobe staple everyone probably already has in their closet. Right now full button down cardigans are very in style. You can opt for a little texture like a pointelle or cable knit, or keep it simple. Short sleeve cardigans are also another great option if you live in warmer areas like i do.

A light cardigan is the perfect spring layer; you can wear is open, fully buttoned as a top, or drape it over your shoulders for more of that preppy, old money aesthetic. I also love pairing cardigans with activewear! (see my styling post here for more inspo) I recently found some super affordable cardigans at Target and H&M!

STRIPED SWEATER

Can you tell i'm a little obsessed with stripes right now? I typically stick to a neutral color palate but these striped sweaters are so easy to style and actually go with so many things. This is a prime example of an item that isn't a plain neutral that can totally fit into a capsule wardrobe! I'm really loving Abercrombie & Fitch right now for striped sweaters.

BOTTOMS

For bottoms i'm still primarily sticking with pants in the spring, especially postpartum. A pull on pant with an elastic waistband is going to be a mom wardrobe staple for me for sure.

JEANS / PULL ON PANTS

I've finally hopped on the barrel leg trend, I think they are the perfect cut for spring because they typically hit at the ankle and look great with flats and sandals. I am also on the hunt for the perfect drawstring denim jeans; especially nice for postpartum and pregnancy. For a more comfy but elevated outfit you can never go wrong with a linen pant, especially in white or black. Green is an easy to style "neutral" color, you can go for a denim or utility style.

ATHLETIC BOTTOMS

Black leggings will be a closet staple for me forever, but i am also gravitating towards wide leg yoga pants, i feel like these are the new "flare legging," but more flattering on my body postpartum. I also love an athletic skirt for a comfortable and functional, but slightly elevated outfit. The Old Navy StudioSmooth line is SO GOOD. All the pieces below are ones i own and wear on repeat, the fabric is so soft and gives lulu align at a fraction of the cost.

WHITE DRESS

Every spring capsule needs a white dress. I learn towards midi/maxi dresses these days, but a mini babydoll dress is also a great option.

An easy to throw on and go option, you can wear for a workout or style as a casual outfit for errands, school drop off, etc..

MATCHING SETS

I live for a good matching set! I love how versatile they are, you can wear the pieces together for an easy go to outfit, or mix and match them. I would include at least one sweat set and one casual set you can dress up or down.

I'm loving the mockneck sweatshirts with wide leg sweatpants, but you also can never go wrong with a classic hoodie, crewneck, or quarter zip.

SWEAT SET

CASUAL SET (not sweats)

I'm loving the convenience of a matching set so much as a mom, sometimes you just need the ease of an outfit thats already put together for you. I could definitely live in loungewear sets, but sometimes I do want to look a little more put together; which is where these sets come in. I love one thats versatile, easy to mix and match the pieces separately, and can also dress up or down.

BAGS

I've officially entered my mom bag era, so i'm leaning towards larger bags to fit mine and baby girls things. I did also include a shoulder bag for quick errands when I don't feel like bringing a big bag.

ACCESORIES

Accessories can truly make an outfit, especially one based on more plain, or simple pieces. This is also a great area to experiment with different colors or trends.

JEWELRY

An Everyday Jewelry stack, or go to pieces, is the easiest way to look effortlessly cool and put together, regardless of what you're wearing. The right jewelry can even make an Adam Sandler sweats look like you actually tried, instead of looking like you just rolled out of bed and threw on the first thing you could find that's comfy (which let's be honest, us moms are doing quite often).

This is also a perfect opportunity to invest in some quality sentimental pieces you can wear without having to take off, and can pass down to your kids one day. I got a necklace with my daughters birthstone and initial, and will add the same for future children.
